Aaron Lotus
"I hate the saying "nobody's perfect". To say that is to admit your limits, and I refuse to accept that there is a dream I cannot reach!" - Aaron to Ryu, Demon Arc
|
Aaron Lotus is a member of the Amandine City Special Defense Force and a major protagonist in "Sephirot's Eye". He is a 17 year old male with blonde hair and dark red eyes. He is often seen in a long blue cloak with gold symbols along it and a white fur collar. The coat also bears the Lotus Family symbol (the lotus flower) on its back. He is incredibly brave, almost to the point of recklessness, and is known to be somewhat vain. This vanity largely stems from the fact that he has had combat superiority against nearly all of his opponents since childhood, this is natural having come from the legendary mercenary group known as the Lotus Family, and for his attractiveness. He is known to playfully flirt with many girls and is often fawned over. His pride, however, is also his greatest weakness, because he easily succumbs to taunts despite his incredible IQ. Though he may act superior and mean to some people, he is, in fact, a very kind person which can be seen in both his relationship with Kira Makoto and his desire to help out those in need. On top of this, Aaron is also know to be very conniving and mischievous. He enjoys causing trouble because he finds it to be an effective means of entertainment.
Being a member of the Amandine City Special Defense Force, Aaron is a member of the Sephirot. Specifically, he is the 7th member who represents the dimension Tiphareth. His soul weapon is known as Paradox. Paradox is both a Unique + class weapon and a Unique - Class Weapon in the form of two full sized twin swords, one with a black design and the other with a white one. It has an affinity for raw energy and its percentage of purity is still currently unknown. As a raw energy manipulator, he has the ability to absorb any elemental energy projected at him from an opponent that is a class to which Tiphareth is connected to, meaning all except divine and matter. Paradox's Unique + class evolution strengthened this ability greatly. It is the only known weapon to have evolved into two separate soul weapon classes, and the only reason why this is possible is because of the divine attribute that was attached to his soul at a young age by the Grand Deus, Fate (who had taken on the form of a golden spider at the time). This soul alteration forced the evolution of his white blade into the Unique + Class, which immensely strengthened his ability to absorb and take on the properties of attribute based projectiles, and the evolution of his black blade into the Unique - Class, which granted him the ability to physically manipulate the shape and form of raw energy into many different tools (his favorite being small platforms on the bottom of his shoes which he can use to fly). Aaron, however, does not master the use of the latter abilities until the events of the Blood for Blood Arc.
Also, Aaron is known to have the highest stamina among all of the members of the Sephirot, but the lowest defensive skill (his fighting style relies on using relentless fast paced attacks to limit the actions of the enemy rather than defending). He was the first member to join the group, having been discovered by Mr. Yama seven months prior to the beginning of the story |
Background
Aaron was born to Marshal and Maria Lotus on October 26th, 3259 on the Lotus Family Estate, which is located on an active volcano in Southwest Romeria. His parents had him begin to undergo intense physical training every day at a very young age and it quickly became apparent that he possessed a talent for combat. His father Marshal, had him train alongside his older brother, Xanxas, as an attempt to accelerate his training to an adult level. At age six, Aaron came across a small golden spider on a rose while wandering the estate by himself. Though he does not discover this until the events of the Blood For Blood Arc, the spider was, in fact, the Grand Deus known as Fate, in disguise. Much to Aaron's surprise, the spider greets him and begins to question him on his philosophies on life. Aaron, whose initial disbelief was eventually overcome by childhood wonder, played along and answered all of the spiders questions, asking a few of his own along the way. When the spider brought up the topic of destiny, Aaron became agitated and blurted out that there was no way any sort of fate could bind him. Surprised by this statement and look of conviction in the child he had approached, the spider found himself thoroughly amused by Aaron's resolve and told him that he would grant him the power to either create or destroy his destiny. With that the spider climbed onto Aaron's hand and made its way up to his right shoulder where it burst into a golden light and dissolved into Aaron's body. At the same time, Aaron's weapon split into two and evolved into both the Unique + and Unique - classes. What had actually happened was that Fate had fused a portion of his own body with Aaron's soul, and this forced his soul weapon to take on two separate forms of different classes to account for the two separate flows of energy now present in Aaron's body.
Over the next few years, Aaron continued his harsh training at an unbelievable rate and began to take on numerous high risk assassination missions at the command of his father. However, having spent all of his time either training or killing, Aaron was never able to make any friends outside of his family and he grew very discontent.
Over the next few years, Aaron continued his harsh training at an unbelievable rate and began to take on numerous high risk assassination missions at the command of his father. However, having spent all of his time either training or killing, Aaron was never able to make any friends outside of his family and he grew very discontent.
Out of his own rebellious nature and a sheer desire for independence, Aaron eventually began to occasionally sneak out of his families estate to explore the world around him. During one of these excursions, he met Akiko Light in a town at the bottom of the volcano where he lives. The two quickly became friends and, over the years, developed a crush on one another. To Aaron, Akiko was a ray of light in the dark world he lived in. He never liked the life of a mercenary because it lacked loyalty and a purpose in fighting. Akiko helped him to remember these morals and taught him about the value of human life.
One day, while Akiko and Aaron were talking under a willow tree at the edge of town, the village was attacked by the Plutarc Organization, at the orders of Byakuran Kamitsu. The attackers proved to be highly skilled and managed to eliminate every civilian within the town in under an hour. Aaron and Akiko rushed to the burning town and were confronted by two men, Romerio Atlas and Titus Zoldyc, shortly after arriving. Atlas asked Titus whether or not Akiko was the girl they were looking for and the latter confirmed this. Titus proceeded to grab Akiko and hoist her over his shoulder, as Romerio approached Aaron, who was getting ready to attack. Before, Romerio (who intended to kill Aaron) could do anything, however, his partner stopped him, having recognized Aaron as a member of the Lotus Family. He told Atlas that the family never forgives the death of one of their members and that it would be incredibly bad if the group were to take action against them. Titus refers to their group as Plutarc during this conversation and Aaron has it etched into his mind. Romerio then knocks out Aaron as he watches, just before he loses consciousness, as the one he loves get carried off by the men, calling for help. When Aaron next awakens, he is in his household and he begs his father to help him save Akiko, but he refuses, claiming that this is a good lesson for him because he needs to learn that death is common in his line of work. The loss of Akiko haunts Aaron for the next few years of his life and he dedicates countless hours to both research into Plutarc and training so that he might one day claim his revenge.
It is not until Aaron meets Kira, who's innocence and friendliness bring Aaron back to his senses, that he is able to return to his fun-loving self.
A few years later, while he was taking a walk around the estate grounds, Aaron came across an injured Kira Makoto who had collapsed just at the edge of the estate. Aaron brought him back to the main manor and explained the situation to his father, who was thoroughly confused as to how Kira, who was but a small child at the time, could have made it that far onto their estate, which is under heavy guard at all times. Netero, Aaron's grandfather, who was clearly very amused by the whole situation, was the one who convinced Marshal to wait until the boy woke up before they took any sort of action. When Kira awoke, he admitted to having amnesia and that he did not have anywhere to go. Netero, who was able to confirm the authenticity behind Kira's statements by directly checking his pulse, offered to let him work as a servant at the estate for the time being him to work as a servant there, and Kira agreed. Overtime, however, Marshall actually became very attached to the boy despite his lack of fighting prowess and, overtime, Kira became more of an adopted son to the family than a servant. Aaron became extremely close to Kira over the years and eventually began to consider themselves to be brothers. It is Kira's innocence and friendliness that finally brings Aaron back to his senses, returning him to his fun-loving self, after the few years he spent obsessed with getting his revenge on Plutarc.

At age fifteen, Aaron decided to quit the Lotus Family and head for Amandine City with his brother, Kira, because he was bored by the stiff regulations of the job and felt a desire for freedom. He also resented many of the members of his family for their needless brutality. His status as a member of the Sephirot was discovered shortly after he entered the city, while he was taking part in a fighting tournament, and was quickly brought to the City Tower. He forced the officer who confronted him, Ido Yama, to allow Kira to come as well because he refused to leave him alone in the city or leave him in the care of a government official. Aaron was the first member of the Sephirot to be discovered, but it was not long before he was joined by Erza Cross prior to the start of the story.
Personality
Overwhelming with confidence and an equal desire to cause mischief, Aaron is a prideful and cunning individual. His presence is dominated by a rarely wavering look of what Kai Discus describes as, "The 'We both know that I am better than you' look". His courage and vanity stem from that sense of confidence, and they have contributed to his love of causing mischief and turmoil - as his pranks and schemes seem to reaffirm his superior intellect in his eyes. His vanity, however, has made him very stubborn and quite cynical at times, believing that it is impossible for anyone's opinions to be superior to his own. In addition, Aaron is known for being the most attractive male among the members of the Sephirot and he is quite skilled in the "art of flirting" - which further contributes to the size of his ego.

"Heroes are those who never doubt a warning and always embrace the challenge. It is not the past that makes a hero, but the future he creates." - Akiko to Aaron, just before the Plutarc incident
Aaron's ego is undoubtedly his greatest fault. In spite of his incredible combat skills, high IQ and physical abilities, he is still easily tricked into helping his opponents whenever they mess with his pride. However, while he has been outsmarted multiple times in the past because of this, he does learn from his mistakes and has been shown to be capable of recognizing repetitive tactics and is able to overcome them. Aaron's ego also leads him to perform many dangerous or somewhat "evil" deeds outside of battle. He is by no means pure of heart and is willing to break as many rules as it takes to either win a fight or just simply enjoy himself. He also grew up in a family where killing is a normal occupation, so he sometimes has trouble seeing the value of life, which has resulted in the creation of a somewhat sadistic portion of Aaron's personality that occasionally becomes apparent during battle. At times, when he is either excited by the thought of battle or up against a worthy (but not overwhelming) enemy, he will begin revel in combat and sometimes even laugh at his success in drawing blood. He loves to fight and is sometimes overtaken by this joy, which results in him acting in this more malicious way.
While Aaron may sometimes seem to be entirely driven by self-interest, he actually possesses quite a few soft spots. Although he will never admit it because of his pride, Aaron holds his friends in high regard and actually values their lives more than his own. Aaron is fully willing to sacrifice himself if it means protecting someone he is close to, and on multiple occasions, Aaron accidentally breaks his normally unshakable confident disposition and demonstrates his true concern for the well-being of his comrades. Examples of this include when he was in a panic after Kira's disappearance during the Alvon War Arc, and his unwillingness to use his full strength during the Sick Arc because he feared he might hurt the ill Ryu. who he was carrying on his back. Another one of Aaron's soft spots is that he is unable to stop himself from sympathizing with anyone who is passionate about their dream. As a self-proclaimed romantic, Aaron believes in the constant pursuit of the ideal and that nothing is ever impossible, which is what drives him to pursue his own dream of becoming absolutely perfect. He cannot help but feel an overwhelming compulsion to lend support to anyone who is struggling against all odds for something they believe in as he feels it is his duty to show the world that there is no dream that is out of reach.
It is theorized that Aaron's own personality played a key role in the development of his most unique ability: complete control over the highly malleable raw energy. This power not only grants him access to an unimaginable variety in technique and strategy within combat, but also serves to convenience him in many situations outside of battle to "satisfy his boredom". His proficiency with this technique allows him to make use of many different styles of combat, his favorite being his use of it to fly and out-maneuver his opponents. Some of the different ways Aaron uses raw energy include: energy blast, rope, hover board, soles under his shoes enabling flight, and soldiers which he can freely control by focusing his energy (only able to use after undergoing his transformation).

While his confidence is nearly unbreakable, Aaron does have his limits. During the Rise of the Rapture Swordsman Arc, he has his first ever experience with complete helplessness in a combat scenario. During his first battle with Ryu Naraka, Aaron finds himself completely overwhelmed by his opponent, and would certainly have died had Doctór not ordered Ryu to retreat before pursuing him. Aaron had been overpowered in combat before, but he had never been so completely outclassed to the point where he could do nothing but retreat. This defeat shattered his pride and it took him quite a while to fully recover. He was, however, able to eventually resolved his inner grief by focusing on his training so that he would never have to endure such a crushing defeat again.
Powers and Abilities |
Physical Abilities
Even prior to joining the Sephirot, Aaron possessed extraordinary physical prowess and ability. Having partaken in intense physical training that was personally overseen by the second ranked member of the 7 Harbingers, Marshal Lotus, since the age of three, only to have that regimen accelerated and intensified at age six, Aaron was several times stronger and faster than the average adult male in the Arcosian Arc. For the almost entirety of the first arc (up until his encounter with Atem Illiad), Aaron's strength, dexterity, speed, endurance and stamina all completely outclass every opponent he meets. As the story progresses, Aaron quickly loses the overwhelming gap in strength between he and his allies, but still remains one of the most powerful members of the Sephirot. His two greatest attributes, however, are his dexterity and stamina. Having a pair of twin swords as his soul weapon and undergone a training regimen that focused largely on assassination, Aaron had to learn how to maximize every movement in combat and thus had to have complete control over every part of his body. Through his training, Aaron achieved incredible dexterity and this has influenced his fighting style tremendously. No movement, let alone any attack, is ever wasted as each of his offenses is delivered with the intent to kill. This dexterity makes him very light footed in combat and helps him to focus primarily on relentless assaults to keep his enemies on the defensive rather than drawing out battles by taking the time to tire out his opponents as they take the offensive. The only reason why Aaron is able to maintain this battle strategy, however, is because of his inhuman stamina. Since he started his training, Aaron has always possessed an unimaginable level of stamina, that was even further multiplied after his merging with Fate. Marshal Lotus has personally stated that Aaron is capable of enduring three entire days of intense combat without rest, and that this is his most dangerous characteristic. Due to his unimaginable level of stamina, Aaron is able to use his speed and dexterity to maintain an offensive assault on an enemy almost indefinitely without rest. However this will not stop him from collapsing should he sustain heavy injury.
Enhancements
- Augmented Divinity - At age six, Aaron's soul was merged with a portion of that of the Grand Deus, Fate. This augmentation resulted in a number of changes to Aaron's physical body and soul. The result of this occurrence was the addition of a divine aspect to Aaron's own soul, which, since it was not originally his own, resulted in the creation of two separate energy flows within his body. As a result of this, Aaron's soul weapon was divided into two and evolved into two separate classes (Unique + for his white blade and Unique - for his black one). Furthermore, because he has two separate energy flows within his body, Aaron is the only known individual who is capable of performing two independent, non-successive Aura Reverses, and a Quantum Morph, which allows him to activate both transformations simultaneously. Furthermore, having a divine aspect as part of one's soul means that he is immune to any and all forms of possession and mind control from humans, demi-gods, and gods. Lastly, he is also able to exist inside of and effect spaces that mortals normally cannot. This means that he is able to maintain his form not only within Entity, but also within the realms of Aesir and Izanagi, and he can directly interact with the Abraxas Plane, but he cannot maintain form within it. It should be noted that Aaron does not possess the ability to move between them freely; only the capacity to maintain a form and consciousness within them.
Biology
- Sephirot Member - Having been chosen as a member of the Sephirot, Aaron had all of the limits on his potential removed, enabling him to continue to grow stronger than human restrictions would normally allow. In addition, being a member of the Sephirot enables him to directly interact with divinity, and more specifically, injure/kill them. Normal humans are unable to hurt or resist the influence of any being with a certain degree of divinity (specifically any beings with a level of divinity equal or greater than the Reapers), but those of the Sephirot are not subject to this rule and can directly interact with them.
- Superhuman Stamina - Though the true reasons are unknown, it has been theorized that a DNA mutation within Aaron has caused him to develop an immense level of stamina, which grants him the ability to go for days at a time without rest. Even considering his status as a member of the Sephirot, Aaron is capable of performing tasks that would exhaust most members of the Amandine Special Defense Force without feeling even slightly tired. Following his merger with Fate, this phenomenon became even more pronounced and continues to grow as Aaron himself grows stronger.
Fighting Style
Aaron's fighting style is entirely attack oriented as it sacrifices defense for the ability to maintain a constant, relentless assault. By attempting to deliver as many attacks as possible in the smallest possible span of time; he can force his opponents to remain on the defensive throughout the entirety of the battle. While this fighting style is incredibly exhaustive to the user, Aaron is able to employ it effectively by relying on a combination of his incredible stamina, speed and dexterity. Furthermore, Aaron prefers to focus on maximizing his total number of blows in each bout with his enemies rather than rationing his energy towards attempting to finish off his opponents in a single, massive blow.
|
His reasoning behind this approach stems from the nature of his early training which was focused primarily upon assassination through a combination of both swordplay and martial arts. Through this upbringing, Aaron was able to employ two major factors into his current style. The first was the use of martial arts to compliment his swordplay. In order to deliver as many attacks as possible and to incorporate a sense of unpredictability into his methodology, he will often rely on the use of his arms and legs to follow up a combination from his twin swords. Furthermore, this enables him to attack from all angles - which is especially effective against opponents who are either extremely skilled in swordplay (as they would primarily be focused on outmatching Aaron's use of his twin swords rather and thus be caught off guard by a sudden blow from an elbow or leg), or primarily defense focused. Unlike most individuals, Aaron is not afraid to let go of his soul weapon in the middle of combat to capitalize on an opening - which is seen when he unhands paradox during the Arcosian Arc to deliver three consecutive blunt force attacks to an unnamed cartel member who lunged at him from behind (thrusting his arm backwards for an elbow strike followed by a ducking palm to the chest and then the same to the side of the chin while rising was a much more strategic option than using paradox, whose twin swords would have given his opponent a warning to block as they become visible, thereby indicating a direction of attack, during the time it takes for him to turn around). The second thing Aaron took from his training was an emphasis on lethality in each strike. Having been trained in the art of assassination, he was conditioned into maintaining that every attack is delivered with the intent to kill his opponents. Nearly every swing Aaron takes at an opponent is delivered at some sort of vital or weak point; meaning that, under most circumstances, should he ever hit his target directly (without them redirecting the attack or moving in such a way that causes the blow to hit a different portion of the body), they will die. Ultimately, due to the deadliness of each of his attacks, he is able to justify his reasoning behind why he prefers to maximize his total number of attacks rather than focusing on all-or-nothing single strikes.
According to Ido Yama, Aaron's fighting style is considered to be the polar opposite of that of Ryu Naraka. Whereas the latter is focused entirely on defense, using mid-ranged attacks to keep his opponents at bay until given the perfect opportunity to completely destroy an opportunity with a single, overwhelming attack, Aaron methodology is the exact opposite as it values solely offensive capacity and the ability to deliver as many, close-ranged attacks as possible. Further more, Aaron's proficiency in the eight most basic combative components can be ranked from strongest to weakest as: Stamina, Attack (offensive capability), Dexterity, Skill, Speed, Endurance, Range, Defense. On the other hand, Ryu's proficiency could be ranked as: Defensive, Dexterity, Speed, Attack, Range, Skill, Stamina, Endurance. From this it can be deduced that while Aaron specializes in stamina and offensive ability, but is lacking in the fields of range and defensive ability, Ryu excels at defensive ability and dexterity, but is weak in stamina and endurance. Please take into account, however, that this is the most basic breakdown of the factors impact one's fighting capability and lacks many important aspects such as experience, energy (essentially stamina for energy based attacks) and aura strength (destructive capability of energy based attacks).
There are rare exceptions upon which Aaron's battle mandates that he increase the distance between him and his opponent, giving them the chance to counterattack. The most notable of these would be when he is aware of the enemies ability to fire off an energy projectile and have a present willingness to use it. In this event, Aaron will increase the distance between him and his opponent as a means to bait them into firing it so that he might capitalize of Paradoxes ability to absorb such attacks (with the exception of those based on matter or divine energy). Having a proficiency in raw energy, Aaron is able to swing his blade in such a way that it launches an energy projectile that stretches from his blades and absorbs most energy projectiles. Once this occurs, Aaron can pull back the energy strand and have the projectile absorbed into his soul weapon. When this occurs, Aaron is capable of shifting into one of eight different modes depending on what type of energy he absorbs temporarily. While in each mode, Aaron gains a massive affinity for its respective energy type and has all of his physical abilities increased significantly. The amount of time he can spend in each mode is dependent on the size and power of the energy projectile absorbed.
Techniques
- Mode Shift - Due to his soul weapon's affinity for raw energy, Aaron is able to absorb all energy based projectile attacks with the exception of those of matter and divine energy. However, Paradox's Unique + class transformation grants him the ability to enter into one of eight different modes depending on what type of energy he absorbs temporarily. While in each mode, Aaron gains an affinity for its respective energy type and has all of his physical abilities increased significantly. In addition, the markings on his twin blades take on an effect that resembles the energy type of the absorbed attack.
- Assassin Mentality - Through intense mental training, Aaron learned how to completely rid his mind of all distractions and enter into a completely "awakened" state in battle. All of his sense become hyper sensitive only to the factors involved in the current combative situation, and Aaron loses his mentality temporarily as he will only be able to think about killing his opponent until either he is incapacitated or they are dead.
- Raw Energy Manipulation - Aaron is capable of freely altering the shape and properties of the highly malleable raw energy that flows within his body. Paradox's Unique - Class transformation granted him this ability and ultimately allows him to harness energy from within his body and warp it into any shape he can imagine. The restrictions of this technique mandate that he is able to maintain a degree of focus on the shape, less it dissolve into thin air, and that it is always within thirty feet of him. In addition, since energy exists on its own plain and is independent of the laws of gravity, Aaron can cause the energy masses to float and move at his command. Some of his most commonly used forms include:
- Flight Disks - Aaron forms two small energy disks at the bottom of his shoes and uses them to fly at will.
- Hand - An extendable third arm or possibly a disembodied hand, which he can use for a variety of general tasks.
- Chains - Five separate chains stretch from Aaron's fingers which he can use for either maneuverability, restraining his enemies, or attacking.
- Swords - Aaron can create several hovering blades which he can fire at his enemies and use to block attacks.
- Flight Disks - Aaron forms two small energy disks at the bottom of his shoes and uses them to fly at will.
- Selective Stamina Distribution - Following his complete absorption of Fate into his soul during the Blood for Blood Arc, Aaron gained the ability to completely control his physical energy reserves. Under normal circumstances, humans can only supply as much energy to their movements as their muscles demand. Aaron however, can control the amount of energy he provides to his muscles for such movements, and thus can provide and excess, resulting in the ability to access levels of strength that far exceed his normal abilities. In addition, due to his Superhuman Stamina, Aaron can consciously ration out his remaining energy to each of his movements, allowing him to tap into his immense energy all at once.
- Transformation - See Transformations sections for more details.
