The Reapers are the most powerful, non-god, beings in existence. They were created by the Gods solely for the purpose of serving and aiding them in their interactions with human affairs. With the exception of Kira Makoto, they are artificial demigods created by infusing the majority of a deceased human's soul with divinity. This is the reason why they bear an appearance very similar to that of humans. There are never more than ten Reapers in existence (however there are usually less than that) and they are usually created from the souls of humans who died with unimaginable regret and resentment for either humanity or divinity. However, it is also possible for a demigod to be transformed back into a human should a god place a restraint on the energy flow of their soul. Also, all Reapers wear a pendant depicting three red eyes and three black feathers, which is their insignia. While Reapers are incapable of defying the word of a god, they are not without free will. They have differing personalities and are able to go against the will of a member of divinity if they are not specifically given orders not to perform such an act.
The basis of all human malice is founded upon at least one of ten different curses set upon them by Malverum. These curses are the things that drive humanity to perform evil and they include: Pride, Greed, Madness, Innocence, Corruption, Wrath, Treachery, Lust, Desire, and Hatred. Each Reaper is charged with absorbing the negative karma from those who have been tainted by one of these curses; in other words, each Reaper represents one of the ways a human falls to malice. However, in the absence of a full group, the King is tasked with the absorption of the remaining curses into a specialized vessel.

While the Reapers are in direct opposition to the Sephirot, they are not organized in the same way. There is a hierarchy within the group that all members are subject to. Every member is given a rank based upon their age (keep in mind that Reapers are immortal), with the exception of the leader who is determined by the god Leonid. The leader, who is referred to as the "King", has the highest authority, and all members must follow his will. All members are to follow, but are not forced, the orders of those ranked higher than them, therefore, should the King not be the eldest, the member who was created first is second in command. In addition, unlike the Sephirot, the Reapers often work individually rather than as a single (or multiple) group(s). In the past, the Sephirot would often challenge the Reapers in a two against one format, which was pacified due to the isolation of each member from the rest of the group, however their have also been multiple occasions in which one on one duels between a Reaper and a Sephirot have occurred.
The powers of the members of the Reapers vary exponentially and often serve the purpose of pacifying either the destruction of humanity or defeating an individual member of the Sephirot. It is common for the Reapers to attempt to eliminate their rivals before trying to exterminate humanity, but they are by no means obligated to do so. Certain Reapers will often begin to immediately destroy cities upon arrival, while others will seek out the Sephirot first.

The Reaper's inhabit the dimension Binah (which is in close proximity to the divine realm Kether), while Earth resides in the dimension Yesod. In order for the Reapers to reach humanity, they must first traverse across numerous dimensions which causes space-time rifts in the Yesod dimension. These rifts provide numerous signs to the inhabitants of Earth that the Reapers are approaching. The most notable and famous of these changes occurs exactly ten years before their landing: a large shock wave will temporarily distort the sky and every living thing on Earth will cease to age. The closer the Sephirot get to Earth, the more frequent and severe these spacial phenomenon will become.
When a human soul is transformed into a Reaper, often times (but not always) they are given a new name and have the majority of their memories erased. However Reapers usually possess their strongest memories from their human life, such as traumas, despairing moments, and their reasons to keep on living. At the moment, there are only seven reapers in existence and they include (in order of rank): Kira Makoto, Alias, Dissidence, Vice, Avium, Hannibal, and Dashien.

Kira Makoto is the King of the Reapers, as well as the youngest member. He is the only one who was not artificially created by the gods, but is in fact the child of the god Leonid and a human. Unfortunately, while he was still very young, he was kidnapped by the god of mischief, Rynadon, and had his soul's energy suppressed, reverting him back into a human. Rynadon left him on Earth without his memories, where Aaron found him. Kira was unable to summon his soul weapon prior to rejoining the Reapers because of this curse, and thus no one could tell he was a demigod. Kira was discovered by Alias during the Alvon War Arc and led him to a dimensional rift that brought Kira to Binah where the rest of the Reapers were waiting. Shortly afterwords, Kira was transformed back into his form as the Reaper of Desire, which caused his soul weapon, Sephirot, to evolve into the Anathemorgue Class. As a Reaper, Kira could use his Anathemorgue power to bring out his full power at the cost of a physical part of his body, but after being transformed back into a human, this power changed to give him the ability to undergo a quantum morph into his Reaper form (with his full power enabled). Sephirot takes the form of a large scythe and has the power manipulate divine energy. While all weapons can manipulate their element to a degree, Sephirot is capable of gaining full control over the highly destructive, and incredibly rare divine energy, this power is enhanced many times over when Kira brings out his full power as a reaper. Being Leonid's son, Kira was chosen to be the King of the Reapers and thus has full authority over the other members, and must absorb the malice from the curses of hatred, lust, and greed in addition to desire with a specialized vessel. He is destined to fight Aaron Lotus at The End (term used to refer to the battle between the Sephirot and the Reapers).
Alias is the eldest of the Reapers and the only one to have been resurrected twice (after each battle with the Sephirot). He is the Reaper of Pride and his weapon is known as Lucifer. Lucifer is a katana of the Omni Weapon Class. It has an affinity for fire and has the ability to manipulate powerful black flames. He is destined to fight against Erza Cross at The End.
The second oldest Reaper is Dissidence, who is the fusion of the two souls Prima and Ultima. He is the Reaper of Corruption and his weapon is called Vetis. Vetis is an Etherion Class Weapon which gives Dissidence the ability to fuse light and darkness together to create an immensely powerful hybrid element. It is the only known weapon to have an affinity for two different types (being light and darkness), and it takes the form of a traditional, European styled, double edged sword. He is destined to fight Mao Nova at The End.

The next member of Reapers is Vice, who became what he is now not long after the last Reaper-Sephirot War (when King Arthur and his knights of the round table made up the Sephirot). Vice is an insane knight who almost always has his soul weapon active. He is the Reaper of Madness and his soul weapon is called Acedia. Acedia is an Alphum Class weapon with an affinity for darkness and takes the form of a full suit of black armor in addition to a great sword. He is destined to fight against Ryu Naraka at The End.
The fourth Reaper is Avium, a young boy who died an orphan in the slums at the age of 14. He is the Reaper of Innocence and his weapon is known as Astaroth. Astaroth is a Unique -, Super Case Chronideus Class weapon with an affinity for darkness. Astaroth has the extraordinary power to grant its wielder immortality and the ability to regenerate from any injury. Astaroth also has the power to drain the life force from anything that comes into close proximity with it, bringing death to all that it's master touches. Avium can be killed if every cell in his body is destroyed simultaneously, but this is a near impossible task considering his status as a Reaper. His weapon takes the form of a pair of black gloves with chains running down each finger towards a red gem on the back of each hand. He is destined to fight against Rika Alldrive and Sora Sendo at The End.

The fifth Reaper is Hannibal, a long deceased King who betrayed his allies in order to further strengthen his own kingdom. He is the Reaper of Treachery and his weapon is known as Mephistopheles. Mephistopheles is a Unique - Class Weapon with an affinity for raw energy. It takes the form of a lance and it has the power to manipulate the bodies of the deceased on a massive scale. Hannibal is also capable of resurrecting a ghostly horse upon which he can ride and move at unimaginable speeds. He is destined to fight against Faust Bloodstone and Maribel Frost at The End.
The lowest ranking member of the Reapers is Dashien, an old martial arts teacher who lived around 1500 years ago. He is the Reaper of Wrath and his weapon is called Aamon. Aamon is a Magi Class weapon with an affinity for wind. The weapon has fully fused with Dashien, so he fights using his palms and fists. The evolution granted him the power to warp time so that it moves slower for those around him, allowing him to appear to be capable of instantaneous transmission. His greatest strength lies in his martial arts abilities which he can combine with his ability to slow down time in order to gain full control over any battle. His weapons original form was a beaded necklace, and he is destined to fight against Kai Discus at The End. |
